Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha de Silva has been appointed the Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) ending a long tussle between the opposition and the ruling party.
An MP who is a member of COPF who did not wish to be named confirmed that President Ranil Wickremesinghe who chaired the committee meeting proposed the name of Dr. de Silva.
“No one objected to the President's proposal,” the MP said.
The SJB was engaged in a long tussle to gain the chairmanship of COPF and raised the matter in Parliament. Later, President Wickremesinghe agreed to appoint Dr. de Silva as the Chairman but some ruling party members objected and did not carry out his request. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
