Over 5,000 police personnel assigned for security of non-MPs, Ministers: Tiran | Sri Lanka News

Some 5,400 police personnel have been assigned for the security of individuals who are not either MPs or Ministers and a report has been called for regarding the matter, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said today.

He told Parliament that steps would be taken to either remove or cut down the number of security personnel assigned for such persons after reviewing the report.

The Minister said this in response to a question raised by SJB MP Ajith Mannaperuma who asked whether there was any assessment of security provided to religious leaders, religious places and other state officials considering the shortage of police personnel for other civil duties.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
