The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has decided to introduce an insurance scheme for goats, its Chairman W.M.B. Weerasekara said.
He said a goat is normally valued at Rs. 100,000 and a Rs. 400 premium should be paid annually for the insurance of goats.
Accordingly, compensation will be paid in the event of a theft or sudden death of a goat.
The chairman said plans are afoot to provide 70,000 goats to those engaged in animal husbandry within the next five years.
