Uva Wellassa University’s Medicine Faculty to start end of this year: Minister | Sri Lanka News


The new Medicine Faculty of the Uva Wellassa University in the Uva province will begin its academic activities before the end of this year, Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

After participating in the observation tour to the University yesterday (27), he said it has been planned that 50 new medical students will be enrolled to the Faculty for the first time after the Advanced level science stream results are released this year.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the capacity of Finance Minister has allocated Rs. 200 million from the 2023 budget for the basic facilities of the university and the existing laboratories of the university will be used for practical training in the relevant degree courses.

The basic plans of this new medical faculty have been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Based on it, Badulla Provincial Hospital was announced by the Health Ministry as a teaching hospital for the training and clinical work of medical students.

The Minister also said that the children who are qualified to become doctors in the area and the in the province will get an opportunity to come from their homes and fulfill their dreams. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
