Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said an intelligence report was received regarding possible death threats on him due to the measures taken to eradicate the drug menace and underworld from the country.
Addressing the media, he said rumors were circulating about possible death threats on him.
“I accepted this position to fulfill my duties even though there are death threats on me. As long as I am in this position, I will do my duty while conducting raids to eradicate the drug menace and the underworld. We must know how to continue with our duties while protecting ourselves,” he said.
“But I will never step back because of the death threats. Even if I get death threats, I will keep moving forward.”
Responding to a question raised by a journalist, Minister Alles said there was no information of threats forcing him to resign from his post.
“When engaged in such a process of eradicating the drug menace and the underworld, there may be persons from high-ranking positions who back them trying to influence me. They would do many things to remove me from this post. There are people who are jealous and may be very fond of having this position. Still, I do not have such issues. I will do my duty as best I can, and I will withdraw only when I cannot do my job,” the minister said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
