A total of 3,344 persons have been warned for allowing mosquito breeding places during a special two-day dengue control operation held during the weekend in the Western Province.
Police said the operation was conducted on Saturday and Sunday covering the Western Province with the participation of 1,325 police officers, 958 officials from the MOH offices, 378 members of the tri-forces, 1,866 members of the Public Security Committee, 580 workers of local government bodies, 306 officials of the Pradesheeya Sabhas and nearly 2,000 other personnel.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon, where measures were taken to educate the public, as well as inspect the houses and premises for mosquito breeding.
During the operation, 3,142 mosquito breeding places have been identified. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
