Businessman arrested with over 7 kilos of gold worth Rs. 152.5 million | Sri Lanka News


A stock of gold weighing 07 kilos valued at around Rs. 152.5 million smuggled into the country by an air passenger was seized by the Police Anti Narcotics Unit at the Katunayaka International Airport.

The suspect is a 43-year-old businessman from Maradana in Colombo who often undertakes overseas trips. Police said he arrived on Sunday morning from Dubai and checked out, but was arrested at the exit on suspicion to find the stock of gold in eight parcels hidden around his waist.

Investigations revealed that he had in his possession 43 gold biscuits weighing 04.400 kilos, and a stock of gold jewellery weighing 2.600 kilos.

The passenger and the stock of contraband were handed over to the Airport Customs for further action. (T.K.G.Kapila)
