Two COVID-19 related deaths were reported from the Kinigama and Akbar Town GN Divisions of the Mahara GS Division, Mahara MOH Dr. Nihal Gamage said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he confirmed that the deaths are due to the infection of Coronavirus.
The deceased are a female aged 81 and a male aged 80 who are residents of Kinigama and Akbar Town respectively.
According to the area Public Health Inspectors Rupasinghe and R.A.W. Ramanayake, it is after one and half years that COVID-19 deaths have been reported from the Mahara GN Division.
The PHIs said the 81-year-old female had not received any dose of vaccines while the other had received only one dose of vaccine. The duo had been suffering from chronic diseases.
Meanwhile, according to the Epidemiology Unit, a total of 16,844 COVID-19 patients have succumbed to Coronavirus since the pandemic started and there have been five COVID-19 related fatalities during the last 10 days. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
