Shortage of eggs will ease within 15 days after removal of maximum retail price | Sri Lanka News

After the removal of the maximum retail price for eggs they will be available country-wide within 15 days, the egg and poultry industry claimed yesterday.

A few days earlier, poultry farmers had requested the Agriculture Ministry to remove the maximum retail price for eggs in order to eliminate the shortage of eggs in the country.

However, if the maximum retail price on eggs is not removed, they have agreed to abide by whatever decision is taken by the government. To increase the local egg production the poultry farmers requested the minister to remove the ban imposed on the use of rice and to rectify the shortage of maize for animal feed.

According to the facts presented by the poultry farmers, the Cabinet will notify to remove the maximum retail price for eggs and will also take steps to remove the current ban on the use of rice for animal feed, the minister said.

Also, the minister mentioned that the import of eggs will not be stopped until the egg and poultry producers take steps to supply eggs to the market without any shortages. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
