The Agriculture Ministry has granted permission to allow imported chicken eggs to be sold in the local retail market.
This decision was announced today by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera. Earlier, the ministry allowed the sale of imported chicken eggs only to the local bakery industry.
Accordingly, the department has decided to revise the currently issued guidelines and allow the sale of imported chicken eggs in the retail market as well.
Considering the current shortage of eggs in the market, the Agriculture Ministry recently took several decisions to make eggs freely available to the people. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
