The crocodile population in the Menik Ganga in Kataragama has reportedly increased, the Wild Life Department said.
Uva Provincial Wildlife Assistant Director Upul Indrajith requested the residents in the area and also pilgrims to be alert when using the Menik Ganga for their daily needs and religious purposes.
He said crocodiles in rivers, tanks and steams in the Yala area are moving in search of food and water due to the dry season in the area.
Therefore, most of the crocodiles are moving to the Menik Ganga these days as it is their natural habit, he said.
Therefore, the Assistant Director requested those frequenting the river areas to be careful when using the Menik Ganga. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
