Bad weather diverts flight to Mattala | Sri Lanka News


A passenger flight scheduled to land at the Katunayake International Airport has been diverted to the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), Mattala this evening due to bad weather conditions around the airport area, the Katunayake airport Duty Manager said.

He said the bad weather conditions with heavy rain and lightning from 04.00 pm made it very difficult for the aircraft to land.

Accordingly, the Fitz Air Service flight 8D 834 from Chennai, India which was scheduled to land at the Katunayake Airport at 04.10 pm has been diverted to the Mattala Airport.

There were 143 passengers and 15 crew members on the flight which landed at the MRIA at 05 pm, the MRIA Duty Manager said.

She said the flight will leave from MRIA airport soon after the weather conditions return to normal. (T.K.G Kapila)
