SLPP to announce its presidential candidate after the new year | Sri Lanka News

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is in the process of preparing to announce the name of its presidential candidate after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, SLPP MP Prof. Ranjith Bandara said.

Addressing the weekly media briefing today, he said they have many problems to solve and should not move to a point where there is a need for a sudden election of a person. They have the time for that.

“We should present a better and more sustainable program to the people with which we can help solve all the problems in the country. I believe that the SLPP is the only party that can present such a program to the country. Therefore, we are visiting the people in the rural areas to meet them and talk with them,” he said.

“We will strengthen our political campaign after the upcoming Sinhala New Year. After the new year, we will announce the person who is to be contested the presidential election.”

While replying to a question raised by a journalist, Prof. Bandara said there is nothing wrong with electing former minister Basil Rajapaksa as the next presidential candidate. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
