The Cabinet has granted approval to pay the basic salary for state employees who are contesting the Local Government elections, State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura said.
He told Parliament that they would be paid the basic salary for the period of March 9 and April 25 and that the salary would be credited before April 10.
He said this in response to a question by Parliamentarian Jagath Kumara, who asked whether the salary for the government employees who were contesting the LG polls would be paid, claiming that they were facing huge inconveniences as the New Year is also round the corner.
