A private member's Bill to amend the penal code in favour of LGBT Q plus people was presented to Parliament by MP Premanath Dolawatta today.
“The Bill seeks to amend the penal code in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and others,” MP Dolawatta said.
The intent of the legislature in enactment must be considered as amending the provisions of penal code which makes sexual orientation a punishable offence.
Meanwhile, voluntary and carnal intercourse against the order of nature with an animal, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years and shall also be liable for a fine.(Yohan Perera and Ajih Siriwardana)
