Navy recovers Rs. 67.5 mn seas off Talaimannar | Sri Lanka News

The Sri Lanka Navy has recovered over 4kg of Crystal Methamphetamine, known as ICE, floating in the sea during a special search operation conducted in the Sand Dune Sea area of Talaimannar yesterday.

The Navy said the gross street value of the recovered drugs is believed to be over Rs. 67.5 million.

The special operation was mounted by 'SLNS Thammanna' in the North Central Naval Command in the Sand Dune Sea area. The naval personnel engaged in this operation spotted suspicious jute sacks floating in the sea and found those four sacks containing drugs weighing approximately 4.5kg (gross weight).

The Navy suspects that the smugglers might have abandoned the drugs, unable to bring those ashore due to constant naval operations in the area.

The seized contraband of 'ICE' is kept under navy custody until being handed over to authorities for onward legal action. (Darshan Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
