The Cabinet nod has been granted to call for fresh tender to procure an estimated 2.25 million MT of coal required for Lakvijaya coal power plant in Norochcholai for the term 2023/2024 under the government procurement process.
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera on Monday sought the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to take necessary steps to implement the procurement process in order to secure the required coal for the 2023/2024 period.
Earlier, the government was forced to cancel the coal tender awarded for 2022-2025 period as the company which won the tender was later revealed to be an unregistered company.
