Five including two Police Inspectors, a police sergeant and two policemen serving in the Police Special Task Force (STF) attached to the Puttalam camp were arrested for beating a policeman of the Nawagathetgama police.
Police said the STF personnel allegedly assaulted the policeman and bundled him in a three-wheeler, took him away and abandoned him near a cemetery, a few days ago.
The Nawagathetgama Police launched investigations following a complaint.
Police said the STF personnel were arrested after they surrendered to the Anamaduwa Police yesterday.
It was reported that the policeman who was on his way to his home riding on a motorcycle after finishing his duty was confronted by a group of men who were outside the house on a three wheeler and a motorcycle began to beat him.
The victim was beaten when he inquired the men that what brought them hear his house.
