The hands of an electrician was cut off after he got into an altercation with an individual in Moratuwa yesterday and the suspect had then fled with the severed hands, police said.
Police said the hands of the victim had been severed at the elbow and taken away over a previous animosity between two parties.
The victim is a resident of Koralawella in Moratuwa and an electrician by profession.
Residents of the area who rushed to the scene had rushed the victim to the Panadura base hospital. A spokesman for the hospital said the two hands could have been grafted if the suspect had not taken them away.
Police said the suspect had fled the area after the incident taking away the two hands.
Police are conducting further investigations and a search is on to arrest the suspect. (Reka Tharangani )
