Royal College were just two wickets away from victory in the 144th Battle of the Blues encounter despite resistance from the Thomian lower-middle order.
Ramiru Perera struck twice with his leg-spin to break the 90-minute resistance of the Thomian seventh-wicket pair of Senesh Hettiarachchi and Charuka Peiris.
The pair were resolute for the better part of the afternoon session before Perera took two in two, first castling Peiris and then getting new batter Akash Fernando prodding to silly mid-off first ball.
Hettiarachchi remained not out on 42 at the tea interval in the company of number ten batter Kavindu Dias.
S. Thomas’ College: 151 for 8 in 53 overs (Senesh Hettiarachchi 42 not out, Charuka Peiris 22, Kavindu Dias 9 not out, Ramiru Perera 2.116, Nethwin Dharmarathne 2/22)
