Macedonian nabbed with cocaine worth Rs.17mn at BIA | Sri Lanka News

A 54-year-old Macedonian was arrested at the  Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to smuggle cocaine worth Rs. 17 million, Customs Deputy Director (Legal) and media spokesman Sudatta Silva said.

He said the suspect landed at the BIA from Brazil, and he was arrested by the customs narcotics officers for his suspicious behaviour.

During the investigations, the customs officers found 350g of cocaine packed in his baggage.

The suspect arrived in the country at around 8.30 am flown by Qatar Airways 

The cocaine was found packed in four packets to appear as soup cubes. Officers revealed that this was his first visit to Sri Lanka, he said.

The customs narcotics division conducts further investigations. The suspect is to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), Silva said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
