 Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka crossed the 30,000 mark during the first eight days of March, bringing the cumulative arrivals for the year to-date to 241,270.

Provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showed that for the 1 – 8 March period, a total of 31, 086 international travellers entered the country.
When compared with the corresponding period in 2022, tourist arrivals have expanded 
by 9.6 percent.

The Russian Federation continues to hold the position as the largest tourist source market for Sri Lanka tourism. It accounted for 24 percent of the total tourist arrivals for the first week of March. Ranking second was India, which brought in 14 percent of the tourists.

While Germany secured the position as the third largest tourist traffic generator, the United Kingdom slipped to fourth position.

Meanwhile, China made it into Sri Lanka’s top 10 tourism source market list this week after almost three years.

The once top tourist traffic generator emerged as the eighth largest contributor to the island nation’s tourist arrivals in the month of March. For the March 1 to 8 period, 727 Chinese tourists visited the country.
