Special commodity levy on imported potatoes up | Sri Lanka News

The government has decided to increase the special commodity levy on a kilogram of imported potatoes by Rs. 30.

While making an announcement, the Finance Ministry said the new levy on imported potatoes will be Rs. 50 per kg and the new levy will exist for a period of six months.

They said the decision was taken considering the recent developments, such as the appreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee against the US dollar.

Accordingly, the prices on imported potato at the Pettah wholesale market have declined.

The Ministry also said the levy was increased to protect the local farmers and ensure price stability (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
