Russian family had a narrow shave from elephant attack | Sri Lanka News


A vehicle in which a Russian family on board was attacked by a wild elephant when they attempted to take a selfie with the jumbo straying near the Minneriya National Park on Habarana-Polonnaruwa main road.

The Russian family with two children aged 8 years and 10 months had a narrow shave but were heavily shaken. Investigations revealed that the wild elephant chased them when they went near the animal and tried to take a selfie. They had taken to their heels and escaped and boarded the vehicle, but the angry elephant jumbo smashed the vehicle causing minor damages.

Minneriya police said the family was on a trip to Polonnaruwa by a rented vehicle and met with the incident on their way back. They left after making a statement. (Karunaratne Gamage)
