Prison is a university for intelligent people: Thilini Priyamali | Sri Lanka News

A prison is like a university for intelligent people, and the media have reported everything that I did and did not do,” businesswoman Thilini Priyamali said addressing the media after being granted bail.

The owner of Thico Group Private Ltd., Thilini Priyamali, was remanded in connection with alleged financial fraud. Several suspects, including the owner of Thico Group Private Ltd., Ven. Borelle Sirisumana Thera, and businesswoman Janaki Siriwardena, were remanded for the alleged financial fraud.

She claimed that she had no right to express her opinions as the case was now before the court.

She said that she had only been granted bail and not released as the defendant in the case.

However, she said that she had been punished by the media before the court decided on the issue.

“As soon as I was first remanded in custody on a B Report, the media punished me with all that needed to be done, before legal proceedings were over,” she said.

“The things that happened so far will not affect my future. Everything depends on the court ruling.

“In prison, I had a lot of experiences. We can’t claim that all the people in prison are guilty. It a mistake to send someone innocent to prison merely on suspicion,” she said.

“As a person, the experience added to my knowledge. This is a good university for intelligent people,” she said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samawickrama)
