Four children arrested for stealing cab & driving to the beach | Sri Lanka News


Four children of a children's home in Nuwara Eliya have been arrested by the Nittambuwa Police after the cab they were driving to Negombo met with an accident in Nittambuwa Town.

Police said the children, aged 16, 12 and 11, who are detained at the children's home following a court order had reportedly stolen the cab from the children's home and were travelling to see the Negombo beach when they met with an accident in the Nittambuwa Town.

Police said the cab collided with a van in Nittambuwa Town but had not stopped.

Later, the driver of the van, that was hit followed the cab and stopped them near the Bandaranaike statue in Horagolla on the Kandy-Colombo Road and informed the Police.

Police found that the 16-year-old boy from Nanu Oya was driving the cab.  

Police said the boy had been driving the cab to Negombo behind a Negombo-bound bus when the accident took place. 

It has been revealed that one of the four children was in a Negombo children's home and later he was transferred to the Nuwara Eliya. 

The other children were identified as residents of Nuwara Eliya, Pundalu Oya and Talawakele.

Further investigations are being conducted by Nittambuwa Police who said the children would be produced in the Attanagalle Magistrate’s Court.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
