Sri lanka News- Sri Lanka’s average coconut prices gained 0.8 percent after falling for two sessions, at a weekly auction on November 17, official data showed.

The average price for 1,000 nuts increased to 64,154.05 from 63,659.82 a week earlier at the auction conducted by Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority.

The highest price was 71,000 rupees for 1,000 nuts up from the previous week’s 70,000  rupees, while the lowest was 51,000 also up from  45,000  rupees, at the auction conducted by Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority.

Sri Lanka’s average coconut auction prices peaked at 64,863 rupees on March 18,2022.

Buyers offered 462,236 nuts at the auction, and sold 397,953.

Among the buyers at the weekly auction are desiccated coconut exporters.

Exports of coconut-based products have risen by 5 percent in the period from January to September to 638.8 million dollars from 606.9 million dollars a year earlier, data showed. (Colombo/Nov 20/2022)
