Raids on human traffickers, punish offenders irrespective of ranks | Sri Lanka News


It has been decided to carry out raids to apprehend persons involved in human trafficking and smuggling throughout the country and to punish them irrespective of their ranks and files, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said.

The decision was announced following a special discussion held with Public Security Minister Tiran Alas, the Police Department's senior officials, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), and the Immigration and Emmigration Department.

It has also been decided to hold an officer-level progress review every two weeks regarding the progress of measures taken against people involved in human trafficking.

Based on the information received by the SLBFE, the Sri Lankans who are involved in human trafficking both domestically and abroad, raids continuously, and thus the raids are scheduled to be accelerated.

It was decided to conduct awareness campaigns about human smuggling and trafficking. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
