Sri Lankans living in Europe are planning to stage a massive demonstration outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France against the Sri Lankan Government’s acts of alleged repression.
Earlier too, a massive demonstration and Satyagraha was held outside the UN Human Rights Commission Office in Geneva, Switzerland against the government’s repression.
A large number of Sri Lankans living in Europe took part in this protest carrying slogans that read; stop the repression, take hands off the struggle, immediately release the arrested activists, abolish the Executive Presidential system, arrest the thugs who attacked the activists, and stand against the arbitrary repression of the Sri Lankan Government.
Attorney-at-law Nuwan Bopage and social activist Shehan Maleka also participated in this protest.
A Satyagraha was also held outside the UNHR Office in Geneva on the day the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council began.
Mr. Bopage is to submit a report with 31 points accusing the Sri Lankan Government of assaulting, kidnapping, imprisoning and intimidation of peaceful protestors, issuing detention orders (DO) for three student activists including the convener of the Inter-University Student Federation under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
