Two arrested over attack on Deshabandu employed at Chest Hospital | Breaking News

Two suspects arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) for allegedly assaulting Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon are essential workers at the National Hospital For Respiratory Diseases (Chest Hospital), President’s Counsel Neville Abeyratne informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday (12) while requesting bail for the two suspects.

Tennakoon, the Senior DIG in charge of Western Province, came under attack during the violent incidents on May 10.

Abeyratne PC filed a motion and informed Magistrate Thilina Gamage that the two suspects are technicians and the clinics at the hospital have been closed without them.

“Your honour, they are not involved in this attack. They collect the sputum samples received from all the hospitals around Colombo. They are the ones who take these samples to the Chest Hospital at Welisara. These two are the ones who take care of patients with severe respiratory complications at the clinic. These clinics have also been closed without them. I am submitting a letter by Dr. Gauri de Silva from the hospital who confirmed the need of these two technicians,” the counsel informed the court.

The Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the suspects have been remanded until September 15 for an identification parade, and the Magistrate informed that the bail request will be considered on that day.
