No businessmen should be appointed as ministers: SJB | Sri Lanka News

The issue with the appointment of ministers and state ministers is not the matter where expenditure is involved, but what matters is the appointment of illegible people, SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne said today.

MP Wickramaratne told a media conference that the issue today with Sri Lanka is the conflicts of interest of those who have been appointed as ministers.

“No one who is engaged in bussinesess should be appointed as ministers as the information they gather from the cabinet and the government as a whole, will be used to develop their businesses. Therefore, if anyone engaged in business appointed as ministers should resign,” he said.

“Also the qualifications and eligibilities for a minister should be included in the constitution. Also the subjects of ministries should also be included in the constitution. The subjects of cabinet should not change when heads of state change,” he added.

He said one should not focus on the expenditure involved with cabinet alone as there are host of other issues with regard to the cabinet in Sri Lanka. (Yohan Perera)
