ECOMOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has reduced a power cut on Sunday August 28 Sunday from three hours to one hour after a coal plant was repaired and re-connected to the grid and lower demand, Public Utilities Commission Chairman Janaka Ratnayaka said.

There will be a one hour power cut in the night only, he said.

“Power shedding for the next week will be decided depending on available resources,” Ratnayake said.

A 300MegaWatt coal plants was repaired and fully loaded at 2245 hours on Saturday, the Ceylon Electricity Board said.

Sri Lanka’s power demand has fallen after the economic activity was slowed to restore the credibility of a peg and end forex shortages.

Forex shortages also hit repairs and spares of power plants. (Colombo/Aug28/2022)
