Sri lanka News – Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has recovered a stock of prescription drugs worth 4.5 million rupees that had washed ashore at Nadukuda, Mannar.

The drugs were discovered on August 20 during one of the Navy’s routine foot patrols and other operations in coastal areas of the island to ward off illegal activities taking place via sea routes, the Navy said in a statement on Monday August 22.

It is believed that smugglers might have abandoned the stock, being unable to take them away due to naval operations in the area, the SLN statement said.

The Navy suspects the drugs were manufactured overseas.

The stock of drugs is being kept in Naval custody until they are investigated for legal proceedings. (Colombo/Aug22/2022)
