Heavy rains over 100mm expected in several areas: Met Dept. | Sri Lanka News


Heavy rains exceeding 100 mm is expected in some parts of the country due to the active Southwest Monsoon, the Department of Meteorology said today.

They said heavy showers can be expected in some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts. 

Meanwhile, showers forecast at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central,
North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Several spells of showers may occur in the northern and north-central provinces.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota will be very rough at times. 

Turbulent conditions in the  sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Mannar, Kankasanturai, and Trincomalee. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate.

There is a possibility of increasing swell waves (about 2.5–3.5 m) in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

Therefore, those who are engaged in fishing and naval activities are advised not to venture into the seas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota until further notice. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
