President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who was in Male has left that country.
According to information received, he had left Male onboard a Saudi Arabia flight to Singapore.
It is expected that Rajapaksa will hand over his letter of resignation to the Speaker upon reaching Singapore.
The Leader reports that a senior official of his personal staff had said that once the President reaches Singapore his letter of resignation would be handed over and that steps are in place for Ranil Wickremesinghe to take oath as the President no sooner Rajapaksa’s letter of resignation is received.
It also reports that the tri forces are on standby until orders are issued by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, to commence the operation of liberating the buildings occupied by the protesters.
It is said that the curfew has been announced as a preliminary to the operation.
With this uncertain situation, the activists have decided to leave the buildings they have occupied.
Meanwhile, according to sources within the government, the acting president has received the support of the majority of government and opposition parliamentarians to establish law and order in the country.
Yesterday’s attack on the security forces by blocking the parliament road and the stealing of a T56 weapon has created great unrest among the security divisions.
Some protesters say that this incident may be a conspiracy planned by some politicians and some people who depend on international organizations to destroy the people’s struggle.
