The organisation called Liberal Fellowship requested everyone to make arrangements to tender the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as soon as possible and publicize it.
They said in a statement that at this extremely critical moment, the entire political community should put aside their personal political goals and work together to stabilize the political, economic and social state of affairs in the country.
“Today we have come to an imminent stage where our basic demand of wanting President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to step down through the #GotaGoHome movement. We would like to
emphasize that this very decisive victory, which is going to be a turning point in Sri Lankan history, was achieved because our fellow fighters were engaged in this peaceful struggle from day one.
Thus, our common consensus as a group that has actively contributed to this peaceful struggle from the beginning is that no victory can be achieved by harming the people and Sri Lanka as a whole with violence,” the statement added.
“The basis of this struggle is to win the aspirations of the people within a constitutional democratic framework by applying the rule of law. Therefore, any individual acting otherwise or encouraging others to do so, shows that they are not fighting for the betterment of the country and the people but rather for their own political agendas.
We are pleading with fellow fighters and all Sri Lankan citizens not to allow anyone to outmanoeuvre. To record this struggle in golden letters in world history, let us all continue this struggle democratically, they said.
