Kanchana calls for COPE probe of PUCSL chairman's claim | Breaking News

Minister of Power and Energy – Kanchana Wijesekera has called for a COPE investigation over yesterday’s (07) statement by Mr. Janaka Ratnayake – the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) on fuel prices.

In response to a question raised by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera during questioning before the COPE Committee yesterday, Mr. Ratnayake had said that it is possible to provide a litre of fuel for Rs. 250.

“I would like to kindly request @charith9 to call CPC & myself to the CPOE to inquire into the allegations made by PUCSL Chairman on Fuel Pricing & Procurement. Inquiry should be held on if the COPE & the Public was misled by PUCSL Chairman or CPC on fuel pricing & any other matter,” Minister Kanchana had Tweeted.

In response, Chairman of the COPE – Prof. Charitha Herath thanked the minister for his engagement and said, “We’ve already decided to summon Sec of Power & Energy, chair+officials of CPC & PUSL Chair on 12 th July at 10 am to look at this issue. Happy to invite Hon Minister Kanchana to the committee to get your views on the matter.
