Two cruise ships laid up in Sri Lanka’s China-backed Hambantota Port | Sinhala News

Sri lanka News – Two cruise ships, MV Arius and MV Gem, with a passenger capacity of 800 each have been berthed for a month-long layup in the China-backed Hambantota International Port (HIP).

Ships are laid up when they are taken off profitable service.

The ships’ crew will also remain in the ships until the layup is completed.

“These types of vessels contribute to increasing awareness among ship owners and ship managers, of the diverse portfolio of services HIP can offer,” Lance Zuo, General Manager, Commercial & Marketing said in a statement.

He said this will help the local communities around the harbour as they have to supply the ships with fresh produce and other necessities.

HIP offers mooring, security for ships, ship supplies, ship repairs, channelling and other services for the ships. (Colombo/Jul03/2022)
