The dengue prevention unit said that 2.416 dengue cases had been reported within the first 8 days of June.
Its Director Specialist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said that currently dengue cases are fast rising. He further said that the highest number of cases have been reported from the Western Province.
He added that 8 districts have been identified as high-risk areas. These areas are Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Kegalle and Ratnapura.
At present, 82 Medical Officer of Health (MoH) areas island wide have been designated as high risk areas for the spread of dengue.
Specialist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said that a special dengue eradication program has been launched in the Western Province from the 15th to the 21st of this month.
