The third reading of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill has been passed without committee stage amendments in Parliament today (09) with a majority of 70 votes.
116 MPs voted in favour & 46 voted against.
In a Tweet, PM Ranil Wickremesinghe had said : “I welcome the adoption of the Sri Lanka Electricity (amendment) bill. This allows rapid deployment of cost effective renewable energy to the grid. Thank you @kanchana_wij for his seeing this through.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Energy – Kanchana Wijesekara had said they hope to “encourage Foreign direct investments as well as opportunities to local developers to participate in the Renewable Energy Plans. Least cost Generation Tariffs will be negotiated by CEB, CB, Treasury, SEA, PUCSL officials with a formula and base prices for all projects.”
