Sri Lanka President’s unused Covid fund to be used for medicines | Sinhala News

Sri lanka News – Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed to release 1.8 billion rupees from COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund to import essential medicines, a statement by the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

Sri Lanka is currently facing a severe shortage of medicine including life-saving and essential drugs, as they have run out of stock with the supply chain being disrupted due to dollar shortage in the country.

President Rajapaksa established ITUKAMA, a fund to help people affected by Covid-19 in 2020. By the end of 2021, the fund got around 1.8 billion rupees and only 197.5 million rupees had been spent from it.

The president instructed relevant officials to release the fund at a meeting held with health officials on Friday (03). (Colombo/June 03/2022)
