Speculation that Sri Lanka Prime Minister likely to step down | Sinhala News

Sri lanka News – Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is likely to step down to make way for an interim government, government sources said.

Likely replacements mentioned include Ministers Dallas Alahapperuma and Dinesh Gunewardene.

Sacked Minister Wimal Weerawansa told reporters after a meeting with President Rajapaksa had made a favourable response to an all party government.

A government source said the Prime Minister had tendered his resignation but the President has not accepted it yet.

A party source said it was “mostly likely that the PM would step down” today and tomorrow.

President Rajapaksa will remain as President.
