Minister pulls rank to save those behind Rugby match assault | Breaking News

A minister hailing from the central hill region is said to be pressurising the police to save the two suspects behind the assault of the referees at the Rugby match between Trinity College and St. Thomas’ College held last weekend.

The aforementioned minister was in hot water in the recent past over is unruly conduct at a prison and even lost one of his ministerial positions as a result.

However, he was granted another ministerial portfolio a few weeks back.

At the present, Ms. Nuwandana Thanthirige and Sanjeewa Bandara Dodanwatta face allegations of assaulting the referees.

Ms. Thanthirige is an employee of the Access Group while Mr. Dodanwatta is the Operations Manager of Siyapatha Finance.

Both of them have been summoned to the Narahenpita police tomorrow (30) to give statements.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the police have also received several photographs showing the father of Ms. Thanthirige too, behaving in a violent manner at the match. He is said to be an athletics coach of the Ladies College, Colombo.
