Cross tusker injured after duel | Breaking News

A cross tusker (Dala Puttuwa) in the Kala Wewa National park has been injured in a fight with other tusker, the Ganewalpola Wildlife office says.

Fights between bull elephants to establish dominance, especially in the mating season are common.

The fight had taken place several days ago and the cross tusker, whose crossedover tusks offer a distinct disadvantage during fights, had suffered multiple injuries.

The injured tusker has exited from the National Park and is currently in a jungle area in Miriswatta, Kekirawa.

A team of medical experts have treated the tusker yesterday (25) after tranquilizing it.
