Sri Lankan man drowns in crocodile attack at sea | Sinhala News

ECONOMYNEXT – A 57-year-old Sri Lankan man who had gone swimming in the sea off the Dehiwala railway station drowned after being attacked by a crocodile Monday (03) afternoon.

Police said the incident took place around 12.15pm and the victim, a resident of nearby Ratmalana, was admitted to the Kalubowila hospital after the attack.

Deputy Director of the Kalubowila Hospital Dr Rukshan Bellana told EconomyNext that the victim had already succumbed to his injuries by the time he was admitted. “The man had injuries on his body, and the official cause of death was marked as drowning,” said Bellana.

“This is an unprecedented event. There have been no such incidents recorded in the past. We are currently looking into the situation,” the police media division said.

It is unclear at present if it was a saltwater crocodile and how the animal would’ve found its way to the area. Investigations are under way, police said. (Colombo/Jan03/2021)
