The Elections Commission has instructed all District Elections Commissioners to commence preliminary steps for holding the elections to elect people’s representatives to the Local Government Institutions as the term of office of the Local Government Institutions is nearing its end.
The term of office of Local Government bodies is due to end on March 20 next year and preliminary work is planned to elect the people’s representatives, Elections Commission Chairman Nimal Punchihewa said.
Accordingly, the basic tasks such as preparing the ballot papers, enumerating the officers and vehicles, identifying the shortcomings of the polling centers and preparing them will be carried out.
He further stated that if the voter list for this year is registered before December 31, it will be possible to use this list for the Local Government elections.
