Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that the Registrar of Pesticides will be removed from his post and disciplinary action will be taken against him, over the gazette issued, lifting the ban on Glyphosate and several other agrochemicals.
The Registrar of Pesticides had issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification yesterday (22) revoking the Gazette issued in 2014 prohibiting the use and sale of five pesticides including Glyphosate.
Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that Registrar of Pesticides Dr. J.A Sumith has been removed from the post and steps will be taken to revoke the gazette lifting the ban on sale and use of Glyphosate and several other agro chemicals that was issued last night.
However, the Registrar of Pesticides Dr. J.A Sumith says the Minister cannot remove him from the post and he has issued a Gazette lifting the ban on Glyphosate and several other agro chemicals following the approval from the Legal draftsman.
