Health Ministry apprehensive about imminent danger as deaths rise | Sri Lanka News

The Health Ministry is highly concerned with the dramatic increase in the number of COVID deaths, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said.

He told a news briefing today that it could be an early warning of an imminent danger.

“Though it is too early to arrive at a conclusion on the situation, it is absolutely important to take a serious note of this,” he emphasised.

“There is a separate team in the Epidemiology Unit to look into this and analyse as to why the deaths went up. We will be getting a report on this in the future,” he added.

However, Dr. Herath urged people to be extra cautious especially in a situation where restrictions have been eased.

The daily fatality number which fluctuates around 18 increased to 31 on Monday (22). (Sheain Fernandopulle)
