A high-powered claymore mine made by LTTE was recovered buried in a private plot of land in the Velanai Ambiga Nagar area in Jaffna last evening (21), police said.
A team of Army Bomb Disposal Squad personnel arrived at the scene after they were alerted and took away the mine.
The Army said the front and rear of the claymore mine, which weighed about 10 kg, was emblazoned in Tamil as LTTE weapons during the war.
The Army further said that steps have been taken to defuse the found claymore mine as per a court order. (Romesh Madushanka)
