Vietnam’s Vinfast unveils electric vehicles, expects to ship from 2022 | Sinhala News

ECONOMYNEXT – Vinfast, a unit of Vietnam’s Vingroup conglomerate has unveiled two electric vehicles at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, with production shipments planned to begin from 2022.

Vinfast unveiled a crossover and SUV, VFe35 and VFe36 models.

Vietnam’s Touitre newspaper said the firm expects to ship production models from late 2022.

The two pre-production models were introduced by Michael Lohscheller, a former Opel and Volkswagen executive who now heads Vinfast Global.

The two models were designed by Pininfarina of Italy, Touitre said. Vinfast tied up with the design house earlier when it started making a limited edition vehicle based on a BMW unit.

Vinfast has set up a global headquarters in California, investing 200 million US dollars and getting a tax 20.5 million US dollar tax incentive from the CalCompetes program with a promise to create 1,000 jobs.

Vingroup has tied up with China’s Gotion High-Tech Co., Ltd of China to produce lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP). (Colombo/Nov21/2021)
